Incredible black leather on this set of five (5) early year production, very collectible, Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller high-back executive soft pad swivel lounge chairs. The light aging to the leather provides a soft patina that is so attractive and adds greater complexity to the color. These collectors examples, while on casters, are positioned in a slightly reclined lounge position. These would be great to use opposite side of a desk as guest chairs, or with a meeting table or lounge space. The casters can easily be removed and replaced with feet if you wish them to be stationary swivel chairs.

These renowned soft pad executive task chairs from the Soft Pad line, designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller. Originally the Aluminum Group chairs were designed in 1958 and then in 1969 the Eames upgraded the design with soft padded cushions with the new name of the "Soft Pad Collection". Featuring the original vintage leather upholstery over four-star aluminum base and frame on casters. The aluminum swivel frames are lightweight making these chairs easy to relocate.

These iconic executive soft pad lounge chairs with their graceful silhouette and clean lines make them appropriate for a number of locations from Mid-Century Modern and Postmodern to Classic and contemporary homes to elegant executive or management offices to hip start-ups. Consider for both residential and commercial projects such as a boutique hotel or lobby lounge to a creative studio and more.

Taken from Herman Miller's website: Aluminum Group chairs began as a Challenge among legendary designers. Eero Saarinen and Alexander Girard were designing the Columbus, Indiana, home of J. Irwin Miller, founder of Cummins Engines. They wanted a high-quality seating product for outdoor use and asked Charles and Ray Eames to develop one. The Eames’s accepted.

Measurements:
H 37" x W 24.5" x D 29"
Seat height 20"
Seat depth 19"
Arm height 24.25"

Condition:
Good vintage condition with attractive light leather patina, ready to be used immediately. Arms have peeling of the lacquered top coat that was originally applied over the aluminum. These are early production examples and often collectors prefer to keep the patina on the arms so we have left it this way but this can be buffed and polished to remove the top coat and give the aluminum frames a soft gloss or matte finish if desired.
