This rare example of the Florence Knoll Model #578 Sofa, designed in 1954, has a built-in attached magazine / book side table and is signed with the original early generation Knoll Associates paper label to the sofa and Knoll Associates bowtie sticker label to the attached side table. This model is already rare as it is, just as a sofa. But the examples with built-in tables are much more rare. Then this one - with magazine slots - it is extra extra rare. Collectors and interior designers - get this before it is gone, it won't last long!

This fantastic no 578 Florence Knoll sofa is large enough to sit four people and a great alternative to a daybed. It's long enough for a tall person to lay and take a NAP. And excellent seat depth of 23" gives enough space to double as a daybed. Consider this for an executive or creative office. Especially for those who have some great design and art books to show off.

Featuring hefty black lacquered steel bar frame, walnut built-in magazine table with eight slots, and the fabric - appears to be nubby bouclé in dark grey with some warm brownish tones. Considered a 1st Generation as it was produced while Knoll was still Knoll Associates, and prior to their change to Knoll International and then later on Knoll Inc and Knoll Group. This example was produced in the early 1960s based on the 320 Park Ave address which was their showroom starting in 1961. The dark gray with slight brown tones nubby bouclé fabric appears to be vintage but we are uncertain if this is the original fabric or was reupholstered since its creation. It is in very good condition so was either (very) well cared for or was reupholstered at some point. The fabric is quite nice and while it is tempting to reupholster in new fabric - we love the look and feel of this nubby soft fabric so decided to keep it the way it is. The hefty lacquered black steel frame is in excellent condition with minimal light wear. The walnut magazine / book side table is in very good original condition with light warm patina. As my European friend says "gorgeous!"

This large couch and table by Florence Knoll for Knoll Associates would work great in a scandinavian or danish modern, Mid-Century Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a contemporary, Hollywood Regency or post-modern room. Also consider mixing it up in a traditional, classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. This living room set would also be an Apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge, members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office.
