Antonio Citterio for Vitra 'Area' Sofa / Daybed, Signed, 1990s

This clever and high-quality Postmodern sofa by Milan-based Antonio Citterio for Vitra designed in 1990, ‘Area’ is a hybrid of daybed and sofa, with a trio of moveable and removable seat backs allowing this to serve as a daybed with all the seat backs removed. And with the seat backs movable to different angles, it is great for a creative office or design studio, or any corporate location where changing the angle of your view can benefit conversations and collaboration.

Vitra manufactured Area through 2002, this example produced in 1998 and is signed and dated with a Vitra label. To move the angle of the seat back you simply lift up and turn the angle of the seat back. It locks in when in the center position. To remove the seat back you simply lift up fully until it comes fully. This example in a medium grey fabric over chrome and aluminum frame and legs.

This Antonio Citerio for Vitra 'Area' sofa would work great in a Postmodern, Mid-Century Modern, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a contemporary or zen / Minimalism room.
