This rare pair of early year production collectors examples of 'LC2' club chairs by Cassina are signed and date stamped with a production year of 1967, making this pair within the first couple original years of production by Cassina.

Cassina's LC2 chair is one of the most sought after 20th century designs by interior designers and collectors alike. Usually the only options available on the open market of this design are newer production examples, often produced within the last 20 years. Extremely rarely does an example become available from Cassina's first several 'original' years of production starting in 1965. This pair was produced in 1967, only a couple years after Cassina began, making these LC2 examples highly suitable for collectors, connoisseurs and interior designers with a client who wants only the best.

The LC2 was designed in 1928 by Le Corbusier; his cousin and colleague Pierre Jeanneret; and Charlotte Perriand. Produced by Cassina from 1965 to today, this authentic original production set of two club chairs retains their original Le Corbusier embossed signatures on the frames as shown in the photographs with model number (LC/2) and 1967 date stamps. This particular embossing style is unique to the early year productions of this design and later year examples have a different signature and serialization style, making these particular pair of chairs much more desirable. Underneath the chairs are 1960's version of Cassina's logo stamp and the distribution sticker from Atelier International Limited (AI Ltd) who was Cassina's U.S. distributor in the 60s and 70s. All three of these signature points support the 1967 manufacturing date.

These elegant and sophisticated LC/2 armchairs by Le Corbusier for Cassina would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Bauhaus, Scandanavian Modern or Danish modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Post-Modern room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an Apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. Consider using as bedside chairs, fireside chairs, dressing or changing room chairs, hallway chairs, entryway or mudroom chairs, nursing or reading chairs, conference room chairs, guest chairs on the opposite side of your desk, lobby chairs or occasional chairs ideal in virtually any setting.

More About the Design (From Cassina's website):
Fauteuil Grand Confort, petit modèle Armchair, two- and three-seater sofas and pouf with polished chrome or painted steel frame in the LC colour palette. Separate cushions upholstered in fabric or leather. LC2 is a timeless model, which has made design history. Designed in 1928 and exhibited at the Salon d’Automne in Paris in 1929, it is the archetypal armchair in the new and modern conception of furnishings understood as “domestic equipment”, re-issued by Cassina and produced exclusively since 1965. The separation of the metal frame and the cushions expresses a rationalist approach to industrial production.

From Wikipedia:
Grand Comfort is a cube-shaped high armchair, whose leather cushions are held in a chrome-plated steel corset. The LC-2 and LC-3 were referred as Cusion Baskets by Le Corbusier. They are more colloquially referred to as the petit confort and grand confort due to their respective sizes.

In popular culture:
The LC2 (and similar LC3) have been featured in a variety of media, notably the Maxell "blown away" advertisement. At the 2010 Apple event, the then CEO Steve Jobs used a Classic LC 3 chair while introducing the iPad. They are a permanent design collection of the Museum of Modern Art. In the modern day BBC adaptation of Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock), Sherlock Holmes sits in a LC3, while Dr. Watson sits in a traditional club chair.

MEASUREMENTS:
H 27" x W 30" x D 27.5"
Seat Height: 20.25"
Seat Depth: 20.5"

CONDITION:
Good vintage condition. Frames are in excellent vintage condition with an overall clean and bright finish. Some light subtle patina on the underside of the chair. Leather has light to moderate age and patina. Inside foam cushions sink in a bit when you sit so we suggest replacing the interior foam which we can do upon request. While the leather is good, another option is to reupholster to a new fabric or leather - such as an alpaca boucle - which we can also do for you upon request. Overall these are excellent original collectors examples and ready for immediate use and installment in your interior art and design collection.
