Paul Evans Patchwork Copper Sideboard Cabinet w Slate Top for Directional, 1967
Stunning and rare copper clad sideboard cabinet by Paul Evans for Directional, produced in circa 1967. This incredible piece of design history is fabricated from patinated pieces of copper, brass, and pewter which have been welded and nailed in a patchwork style pattern resting on top of a patinated metal base. The 2 oversized round front door pulls are what sets this design apart from the rest - giving personality and character to this piece, almost to the point of personifying the cabinet. Underneath the slate top is signed PE indicating the original slate was made for Paul Evans studio.
The top has been fitted with an inset slate stone and the two-door front opens to reveal a painted interior that resembles patina and on one side is a pull out drawer. The pull out drawer has built in dividers and the face of the drawer is also finished in patchwork copper cladding. Not shown in the photos are several black leatherette wrapped shelves which can be placed in any configuration within the cabinet using adjustable pins. The fusion of these exterior materials formulates an exemplary piece which would be a welcome addition to any design lovers collection. We also carry other Paul Evans designs, including Cityscape, Deep-Relief, and Sculpted Metal Collections. Contact us for more information and details on our full collection.
