Ornate Tiki Throne Chair by William Westenhaver for WITCO, 1950sAutomaton Vintage Furnishings
Sit tall and regal on a piece of American history with this exotic throne, crafted in true Modern primitive style. Deep, red walnut is turned into a work of art, with carved details on the arms and back depicting Polynesian deities.
William Westenhaver joined forces with Western International Trading Company in 1957 to bring his vision of Polynesian inspired furniture to life. WITCO successfully brought the "tiki-fever" found in bars and restaurants of the era, directly into the American home.
Elvis Presley himself was a fan of the movement, adorning an entire room at his Graceland estate in Witco furnishings. The aptly named Jungle Room, even showcases a few "throne" style chairs almost identical to this one.
This chair features new satin upholstery, adding a touch of contemporary to this extremely eclectic and unique piece. Whether you are outfitting your own "Jungle Room", or simply looking to add a bit of worldly whimsy to your home, this chair will be a conversation piece for years to come.
