This rare collectors piece is an early Vladimir Kagan for Kagan-Dreyfuss 'Capricorn' tiered side table featuring a pierced enameled steel top which is reminiscent of designs by Mathieu Matégot and then the lower tier is in Kagan's signature spaced wire style over a white enameled steel base. Ideal for indoors or outdoors, this is a highly coveted collectors piece from Kagan's early years while he was partnered with Hugo Dreyfuss. Items from this period of time are amongst the highest valued and sought-after of all of Kagan's body of work.
Known for his eye-catching, modernistic, dynamic designs, Vladimir Kagan's work attracted a stream of notable design projects, along with a lengthy list of celebrity clientele, including Walt Disney and Marilyn Monroe.
In 1958 Kagan Dreyfuss designed "Capricorn", an indoor-outdoor iron collection for W&J Sloan. Aptly named for its nod to the symbol of the Zodiac, this set embodies both comfort and functionality, two principals that drove his creativity.
This rare 'Capricorn' occasional table by Vladimir Kagan for Kagan Dreyfus, circa 1958 would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Post-Modern room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office.
