About the designer:
Gerhard Berg (b. 1927) completed his diploma thesis at the State Craft and Art Industry School in 1953, while working briefly for Ingmar Relling. In 1954 he was employed as a draftsman at Vatne Lenestolfabrikk. Berg's interest in new materials in the furniture industry is expressed through his work on several fiberglass seat shells. From the mid-1950s, Berg designed for several furniture manufacturers including LK Hjelle where he designed the overstuffed furniture series 'Norse' and for PI Langlo the Japanese influenced 'Series 1800'. Stokke produced several of Berg's furniture classics, including the 'Aksla' armchair, the 'Classic' armchair and sofa / couch and the furniture series 'Kubus'.
