Charles Eames for Herman Miller Soft-Pad Executive Desk Chairs, Signed

Incredible leather on this set of fourteen (14) very collectible, Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller high-back 'Soft Pad' executive desk chairs. The light aging to the dark charcoal / light black color leather provides a soft patina that is so attractive and adds greater complexity to the color. These collectors examples are on casters and have tilt and height adjusting mechanisms. The casters can easily be removed and replaced with feet if you wish them to be stationary swivel chairs. Signed with the Herman Miller inventory label and date stamped April 1, 1997.

This particular year of production is a great production era for this design because it was at their (Herman Miller's) height of manufacturing - the quality on the leather of these chairs are far superior to todays production leathers - plus the age has given the leather a lightly aged patina and soft hand-feel. The leather is very thick and quality so it exhibits a casual, relaxed look while very usable and suitable as an everyday work chair.

Note: We have a set of fourteen (14) of these gorgeous executive swivel desk chairs, and they are priced individually. There are some slight variances from chair to chair but all came from the same office so are mostly the same. Some of the variances include the color - some are more black looking while some are more dark charcoal grey, and some have different casters than others. Overall very minor differences, you can request photos of each chair to select the one you wish us to ship to you after you have made the purchase.

These renowned soft pad executive task chairs from the soft pad line, designed by Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller. Originally the Aluminum Group chairs were designed in 1958 and then in 1969 the Eames upgraded the design with soft padded cushions with the new name of the "Soft Pad Collection". Featuring the original vintage leather upholstery over five-star aluminum base and frame on casters. The aluminum swivel frames are lightweight making these chairs easy to relocate. Height Adjustment and Tilt functions located under the chair seat on the aluminum chair base.

Taken from Herman Miller's website: Aluminum Group chairs began as a Challenge among legendary designers. Eero Saarinen and Alexander Girard were designing the Columbus, Indiana, home of J. Irwin Miller, founder of Cummins Engines. They wanted a high-quality seating product for outdoor use and asked Charles and Ray Eames to develop one. The Eames’s accepted.

Condition:
Good vintage condition with attractive light leather patina, ready to be used immediately. Leather has light wear - is very attractive as it has a slightly aged look while still in very good condition. The leather is very thick and quality so it is the kind that improves over time and with use. Aluminum frames are in very good condition with light wear. Overall excellent examples.
