Limited Edition 'Elephant Chair' by Bernard Rancillac, 1985, Signed & Numbered
This rare limited edition 'Elephant Chair' is signed and numbered 37 out of 100, and was designed by famed French artist and sculptor Bernard Rancillac and manufactured in France in 1985 by Michel Roudillon. The ‘Fauteil Éléphant’ (Elephant Chair) was originally designed in 1966 and exhibited at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1968. In 1985 a limited edition signed run of 100 was produced.
The large fiberglass seat in the form of a stylized elephant sits on top of an enameled steel frame with horseshoe shaped foot. Embossed signature with edition number on the upper back where it is easy to see and show off ‘Rancillac 37/100’.
This large Rancillac sculpture which works as functional art as a chair / chaise lounge would be ideal for collectors and art investors. Also for an interior designer looking for a statement piece and would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Space Age Mod, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Post-Modern room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. Consider using as a side chair, bedside chair, fireside chair, nursing or reading chair, or lobby lounge chair.
