Philip and Kelvin LaVerne 'Kuan Su' Bronze and Pewter Side Table, Signed, 1960s
Highly sought-after 'Kuan Su' etched bronze and pewter side table, designed and produced by father and son team Philip and Kelvin LaVerne in the 1960s and signed on the top by the artists and documented in "The Art of Philip LaVerne" on page 17.
The clever use of contrasting surfaces and textures is most unusual and adds dimension to the exotic design. The table top floats on 4 spherical balls that sit atop legs that mimic the Chin Ying coffee tables with chinoiserie styling. The design on the tabletop is the same pattern as found on the highly sought after Laverne credenza. This occasional table has a leaf design in the center and Philip and Kelvin LaVerne signature.
The intricate craftsmanship of this eye-catching piece would be a great addition as part of a Classic, contemporary or Mid-Century Modern living room, den, man (or woman!) cave, family room, office or bedroom. It would also be an Apt choice in a corporate, retail or hospitality location such as a boutique hotel lobby, cocktail bar, members club, workspace studio, executive office or in a luxe clothing emporium.
