$0.00
Attention collectors and interior designers looking for the absolute best example of a Time Life chair for you or your client, read more below to find out why these are the perfect examples for the discriminating collector client. Designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1959 and manufactured by Herman Miller, this mesmerizing trio of very rare color-way Time Life 'Lobby' chairs are unique for 3 design-centric and collector-centric reasons:
First, they are the wider 'Lobby' versions of this design which are no longer in production making these more rare than the smaller Executive chair versions. For those with a wider frame, you will find the extra width makes these uniquely comfortable compared to any other desk chair. Even for average sized people having more space is a serious upgrade from the conventional desk chair. Now the Lobby Lounges are already much more rare, but given this is on a four-star caster base which allows you to use it as a desk chair and not only as a lounge chair, these examples are even more special and hard to find.
Secondly, the frames are a powder coated dark charcoal grey which looks black in darker settings and medium to dark grey in brighter settings. This was a rare design feature unique to around the 1980s and in our opinion, amazing. So very 1980s which if you can believe it, is almost now 40 years ago! And very few Time Life chairs can be found with this design option and especially on Lobby variations. If you are designing a 1980s Post Modern or Memphis styled rooms and want a Time Life chair for it, this is the ideal solution to get the room just right.
Third, the eggplant purple leather is absolutely incredible. The word eggplant doesn't sound great when describing a color but the color on these are just so fabulous. The patina and light leather distressing shows as a pinkish orange. Or an orangish pink. Whichever way you call it, it looks amazing. Mostly concentrated to the arms and a little to the seat. The dynamic colors mixed with eggplant purple is such a cool combination. It works so well together. In our opinion these chairs are perfect.
Designed by Charles Eames and Ray Eames in 1959 for the Time Life building in New York City, this Time Life Lobby office armchair hasn't budged from its role as the pinnacle of professional style, as proven by its constant appearance in the entire Mad Men series. Upholstered in beautiful and vibrant eggplant purple leather, both back cushions tufted by two buttons, these executive management armchairs were created specifically for comfort and support. Padded armrests are perched on the powder coated aluminum frame, while casters mobilize the chair from the four prong sculptural legs. Signed underneath with Herman Miller labels.
These luxurious and collectible desk chairs are bar none the quintessential piece for those who need to have the best in their place of relaxation or work. The legendary chess player Bobby Fischer required a Time Life chair during his games for its supreme comfort. As stated on Eames Office's website: "In 1972, chess grand master Bobby Fischer specifically requested the Eames (Time-Life) executive chair while he competed in the World Chess Championship in Reykjavik, Iceland. He said he could concentrate well in the chair. When opponent Boris Spaasky saw it, he refused to play until he got one, too."
These executive task chairs are ideal for an elegant postmodern or Mid-Century Modern study, sitting room, den or screening room. They would also work well in a contemporary, danish modern, Hollywood Regency or Art Deco creative office, club, gaming room or studio. Also consider in a traditional, transitional, classical or craftsman hospitality or corporate location, such as a private members club, conference room, hip start up or executive office.
